Communication & Engagement

Located in Maple Ridge, Canada. Online or offline, small or large, it is these communities that keeps me active, motivated and inspired daily. It is through meeting individuals and creating shared experiences that I learn. I create and invest myself into media projects in aims to contribute towards creating community.

Portfolio
  • SWAP Working Holidays / 2016-2018

  • A non-profit organization assisting Canadian youth travelling abroad as well as welcoming foreign youth on working holiday permits in Canada. I was able to assist both outbound and inbound aspects of SWAP. My main responsibility was meeting and offering support to young travellers arriving in Vancouver, BC. I met a wide variety of individuals from all over the world. My primary goal was to help them navigate the Canadian job market and that they successfully set up fundamental accounts. I also planned and prepared social events, including: pub nights, art shows, sports, cultural holidays, Canadian pastimes and community events.
  • I worked on several projects with Adobe Photoshop including annual guidebooks and marketing campaigns. It is an important aspect to SWAP that their online community stays connected, as many travellers find themselves living or travelling all across Canada. I monitored and contributed to online accounts to ensure participants remained in communication with SWAP and with other like-minded travellers.
  • I had the great opportunity to talk about SWAP at the Study and Go Abroad travel fairs in both Vancouver and Calgary locations. I truly enjoyed the relationships that were built with co-workers, business owners, tourism agencies and sharing in the enthusiasm of adventurers
  • Got Pop? Concerts / 2011 - 2015

  • Nanaimo, British Columbia. Got Pop? is an event company that has been providing over a decade of entertainment to the Mid-Island region. 600+ shows and counting! Got Pop? has been creating stages for local artists, big name bands and comedians. One aspect that makes this company unique is that it is owned and operated by Andrew Roberts, and it was a privilege to work and learn from a leader in the industry.

  • Working with Got Pop? We were able to explore more online marketing techniques. Facebook is essential to event companies as it provides customers with a consistent location to obtain information on tickets sales, set times, and important notifications. Facebook ads are a great way to push sales and gain a larger audience, as well as developing useful analytics. Got Pop? was set up with a MailChimp account and now has over 4000 and growing subscribers. Supporting local businesses are also featured, allowing for advertising possibilities.

  • The position of a promoter is an ever changing role. I was able to learn many different skills that I had to adapt to each separate event. Promoters have the task to ensure that every aspect of event is satisfactory -preferably create a memorable show for everyone involved. I have experienced venues of 40 to 800 seats in Nanaimo, Victoria and Vancouver. I have no hesitations to host or lead via microphone. Quick thinking and positive problem solving is always ongoing with artists, tour managers, venues, agents, and technicians.
  • Shows: Big Wreck, Bob Saget, Said the Whale, Hey Ocean! Steve O, Jon Lovitz, Daniel Wesley, The Trews, Tom Green, Elliot Brood, Hollerado, and many more.

  • Incline Magazine Writer 2013

Using my connections with local entertainers, I published a piece on Nanaimo's growing comedy scene called Serious Business. My involvement in events allowed me access to the top performers and organizers in the community. I also interviewed several members of the public for a wide variety of articles and non-profit organizations. I also routinely contacted local media and provided press releases for local shows and my own personal performances.

  • Incline Magazine Photographer/Videographer 2013

Combining my passions of technology and journalism I created a media component to a published article. Video, audio and production were edited to correspond with the article Archery's New Cool, written by Diane Bolt. Using a a ZoomH4 recorder for audio and Nikon DSLR for filming and photography.
